Your preparation for getting started

For the first meeting, we suggest:

Stylish 2-piece placemat - goldUse markers, at least at the beginning

  • We recommend preparing seven markers that you can place on the floor as the corner points of the septagon.
  • Good options include placemats, which you can wash afterwards.
  • Alternatively, you can use firm paper or thin cardboard and cut out seven round pieces about 10 cm in diameter. They should not slip when walked over.

Know the Septagram (Seven-pointed Star)

The Seven-pointed Star forms the basis for all formes we will walk in the course. Please learn the Seven-pointed Star so that you can walk it facing forwards (i.e., always looking in the same direction) without losing orientation. You'll see, after a few practice sessions, it's quite easy.

seven-pointed-star-planetsYou start at the top in the "head" of the star looking forward.

  1. From there, move forward to the right "foot",
  2. then move sideways backwards to the left "shoulder",
  3. then move sideways forward to the right "hip",
  4. from there, cross over (always looking forward) to the left "hip",
  5. then, move diagonally backward to the right "shoulder",
  6. move forward to the left "foot".
  7. Finally, move slightly diagonally back to the "head".

Why we move most forms in eurythmy facing forwards will be explained in the course.

Heptagon - SeptagonWalk the Septagon (Heptagon)

Afterwards, also practice walking the sides of the Septagon by walking along the perimeter from point to point, facing forward.

How and why we walk the shapes

The zodiac is will - and forms are will. Therefore, for each of the 12 moods, we have developed a specific shape that supports the dynamics of the text and your resonance with it.

At first, you might think, "Ah, now I have to do this as well", but you'll quickly realise that, on the contrary, it greatly facilitates the learning of the texts. The texts will come naturally afterwards.

In case of restricted mobility
  • If you are unable to walk the shapes, you can trace them with your fingers while sitting or lying down.
  • Try to experience the drawing within your own body as well.

  • The arrows show you the direction.

Texts of the twelve moods
